If international employment is the problem you are solving, pick Remote. If your problem is that HR, IT and payroll live in four systems that do not talk to each other, pick Rippling and accept a weaker employer of record underneath it.

An employer of record, or EOR, is a company that legally employs your hire in a country where you have no legal entity, then bills you. The thing to establish before anything else is whose entity that is.

We re-read both providers' own pages on 6 August 2026. Remote covers 90+ countries and owns the employing company in 19 of them that we confirmed in local company registers, including the UK, Germany, France and Spain. Rippling owns no employing company in any country it sells into.

Remote publishes what it charges and where it can employ you. Rippling publishes a country count on its blog, and no rate anywhere at all. Our disclosure index separates the two by 1.6 points below.

The verdict: Remote.com vs Rippling

Remote wins on

Being answerable. One published rate, a published country count, and in 19 countries a Remote company you can look up in the local register.

Rippling wins on

Everything that happens after the hire. One employee record drives payroll, benefits, the laptop and every app login, across 600+ integrations.

What you pay

Remote

$699 per employee per month, the only EOR rate Remote displays. Contractors $29. No deposit, no setup fee, nothing stacked underneath.

Rippling

Nothing published. Third parties report a base platform at $8 per user plus about $35 a month, and an EOR fee of $499 to $1,000 above it. Rippling confirms neither.

Best for

Remote

Teams whose centre of gravity is already outside the home country, and who need a legal employer that survives a due-diligence question about IP.

Rippling

US-anchored companies where 10 to 30 international hires sit alongside a much larger domestic headcount already running on Rippling.

Deal breaker

Remote

No IT or finance products at all, so Okta, Jamf and expense tooling stay on your bill. Early EOR terminations are not prorated.

Rippling

The base platform fee is charged on every employee you have, so 150 domestic staff land on the international bill.

Evidence: remote.com/pricing and Rippling's employer-of-record and pricing pages, read at source on 6 August 2026. Our own Remote and Rippling reviews, re-verified 2 and 3 August 2026. G2 and Capterra review data for both.

We check comparison pages quarterly. No paid placement.

02

Remote.com vs Rippling at a Glance

These two products are not competing for the same budget line, which is why a straight feature count misleads. Remote sells one thing: the legal employment of your people abroad. Rippling sells the system your whole company runs on, with employment abroad as one module inside it.

The part that outlasts the purchase is what you would be tied to. A Remote contract is one vendor supplying one service, and you cancel it the way you cancel any vendor. A Rippling contract carries payroll, devices and app access with it, so leaving means moving all of that at once.

We have no switching-cost data for either provider, and neither publishes any, so nobody can put a figure on that for you.

If you are only hiring abroad, the trade favours Remote and it is not close. If you already run payroll, devices and app access on Rippling for 150 US staff, adding 10 EOR hires there is a different calculation, and we work it through under pricing below.

Read the "lead" cells and a pattern falls out. Remote takes every row about who employs your person and what it costs. Rippling takes every row about what happens to that person's laptop, logins and expenses afterwards.

One row is genuinely uncomfortable for Remote, and it is the security one. Rippling holds six disclosures to Remote's three. If your security review scores certifications by count, Remote loses that row before anyone reads what the certificates cover.

04

What Are the Key Differences Between Remote.com and Rippling?

Remote takes three of the five: pricing transparency, compliance and country coverage. Rippling takes support satisfaction and unified operations. The evidence for each sits under its own heading.

Best for Pricing

Remote, on transparency more than on the rate itself. Its $699 is public, it holds in Germany as it does in Uruguay, and it carries no platform fee, no setup fee and no deposit under it. You can build a 24-month forecast from a web page.

Every Rippling number in this comparison is somebody else's, including the $499 to $1,000 range on our own Rippling pricing page. We take the whole bill apart under pricing below.

The cost of that is sequence. If Finance wants a figure before it will approve the sales call that produces the figure, Remote lets you write the business case first. With Rippling the call comes first.

We have no data on how long a Rippling quote takes to arrive, so leave a gap in the plan for it.

Best for Compliance

Remote, on the narrow question of who signs your employee's contract. In 19 countries that is a Remote company with a registration number your lawyers can pull. Remote does not publish the position in the rest, and the compliance section below sets out what changes when the signatory is a contracted firm.

Rippling's compliance strength is a different one: automated classification checks that flag a contractor who looks like an employee before you sign them. Remote reviews classification by hand at onboarding.

Best for Country Coverage

Remote, by ten countries. It publishes 90+ and Rippling publishes 80, which is too small a gap to settle a shortlist.

Both are narrow against the market, and the coverage section below puts them next to the wider providers. Count how many of your next ten hires fall outside each published list. That is the number to shortlist on.

Best for Support

Rippling, on the user evidence. It holds 4.8 on G2 and 4.9 on Capterra, the highest scores of any provider we cover, and the support section below gives the sample sizes behind them.

Remote's own documentation puts standard email and chat at 24 to 48 hours for a first reply, and a priority tier arrives once you pass 50 employees.

Rippling's weakness is who gets to ask. Support is admin-gated, so your employees route everything through you, and phone support is generally reserved for larger accounts.

Best for Unified Operations

Rippling, without argument. One hire triggers the payroll record, the benefits enrolment, the laptop and the app accounts, across 600+ integrations, an open API and a SCIM connector that adds and removes logins automatically when someone joins or leaves.

Remote does international employment and nothing else, and the features section below counts its integrations against Rippling's. If consolidating four tools is the point of the project, Remote is not a candidate.

05

What Is Remote.com and What Does It Offer?

Remote employs your people in countries where you have no company of your own, and it does very little else. Its pricing page, which we opened again on 6 August 2026, carries three things: 90+ countries for employer of record, $699 per employee per month, and no annual option displayed anywhere.

How Remote Approaches Owned-Entity EOR

In 19 of those countries Remote is the employer itself. We verified its own subsidiaries in the UK (Remote Technology Services Ltd, company number 12387671), Germany, France, Spain and 15 other primary markets through local registry searches.

Remote does not publish which of the other 70 or so are its own and which are contracted out. Its help pages name Italy, Brazil and India on the contracted side, and the onboarding clock gives the split away in any case.

Expect 5 to 7 business days to onboard someone in an owned-entity country and 10 to 15 in a contracted one. If your start date is already agreed with the candidate, that is the difference between a comfortable week and an apology.

Contractor payments reach 200+ countries and jurisdictions. Remote also sells global payroll separately, and we set the two payroll engines side by side under features below.

Where Remote Has an Edge

IP Guard is the piece with no equivalent on Rippling. Your employee assigns their work to Remote's local entity, then Remote assigns it to you, both steps timestamped.

That two-step trail is dull until a buyer's lawyers ask who owned the code your engineer in Brazil wrote in year one. Brazil is a contracted country, so the assignment runs through a firm you never signed with.

IP Guard turns that into a dated record you export. We cannot tell you what it saves in diligence hours, because neither provider publishes anything on that.

The other edge is cash. Remote takes no deposit and charges no setup fee, so the money stays in your account until the first invoice.

Deel publishes a deposit of one to one and a half times a hire's fully loaded monthly cost, which on ten hires is $66,000 to $99,000 parked before anyone starts work.

Where Remote Falls Short

No device management, no expense tooling and no identity product, so Okta, Jamf and your expense tool stay on the bill. Remote will not reduce your vendor count by anything except an EOR.

First-line support is quick and shallow. The useful answer on a country-specific question takes days, and we set out Remote's own documented reply window under support below.

What Is Rippling and What Does It Offer?

Rippling runs one employee record and hangs everything off it: HR, payroll, benefits, time, expenses, laptops, app access and identity. It grew up serving US companies and added international employment later, as its customers went abroad.

How Rippling Approaches Unified HR, IT and Payroll

Hire someone and a single action provisions the laptop, opens accounts in dozens of apps, starts payroll and triggers the background check. Nobody rekeys that person into a second system, and that provisioning step is the product.

Employer of record is the module that concerns you here, and it is the thinnest part of what Rippling sells. The compliance section below sets out why, and what it means on the day something goes wrong.

It does own payroll in seven countries: US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Australia and India. In those seven it processes the run itself, and everywhere else a local firm does.

Where Rippling Has an Edge

600+ integrations, an open API, and the best user ratings we record for any provider in this market, with the samples behind them set out under support below.

Its security disclosure list runs to SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27018, ISO 42001 and CSA STAR Level 2.

The consolidation itself is the edge, and we set out under features what it is worth against what you would actually retire.

Where Rippling Falls Short

The module you are buying is the one you can learn least about before you commit, on price and on reach alike. Implementation is quote-based and reported at $1,500 to $20,000 as a one-off charge upfront.

Everything international also sits on top of a base platform fee charged across your whole headcount, which is the arithmetic we work through under pricing.

How Do Remote.com and Rippling Compare on Features: EOR Depth vs Platform Breadth?

Neither product is trying to beat the other feature for feature, so a feature count answers the wrong question. We assessed the four capabilities where a buyer actually has to choose.

Employer of Record Services

Remote is deeper. Employment is its founding product, and in 19 countries it is the employer itself, which the compliance section below works through in full.

If your company already runs on Rippling, its EOR hires land inside the same employee record as everyone else, with no second system to reconcile at month end.

Contractor Management

Remote charges $29 per contractor per month, flat, whatever the country and whatever the invoice. Rippling folds contractors into the same quote as everything else, across 185+ countries.

Rippling adds misclassification guardrails that flag a high-risk classification before you engage someone. If a large part of your workforce is contractors in countries with aggressive labour inspectorates, put a price on that control before you dismiss it.

Global Payroll

Remote runs payroll in-house across 70+ countries with direct connections into local tax systems. Rippling processes the run itself in seven, and hands a file to a local firm everywhere else.

If you are consolidating payroll across twenty countries, that gap decides it. If your payroll is heavily US, Canadian and British, Rippling's seven cover most of your volume and the width buys you nothing.

HR Tools and Integrations

Rippling wins this outright and it is the reason to buy it. 600+ integrations, native device management, identity provisioning and a SCIM connector that closes someone's accounts the day they leave.

Remote's connector list runs to around 50 against Rippling's 600+, and those 50 mostly push basic employee data without driving a workflow.

Weigh that against what you would actually retire. A payroll tool and an HRIS you already pay for come off the bill on the day you switch. A device manager you were never going to buy saves you nothing, so count it as zero in the business case.

IP Protection

Remote wins, in the narrow set of cases where this matters at all. IP Guard's two-stage assignment leaves a timestamped record of when your engineer's work became your company's property.

Rippling relies on standard assignment clauses inside a partner's contract, which is thinner ground when the counterparty is not Rippling itself. For most hiring the gap never surfaces. For a patent-heavy team facing an acquisition, it is the first thing diligence asks for.

08

How Do Remote.com and Rippling Compare on Pricing: Flat Published Rate vs Quote-Plus-Modules?

Remote is cheaper for EOR-only buying, and by a wider margin than the headline rates suggest. The margin comes from Rippling's base platform charge, which applies to your whole company, domestic staff included.

Remote Pricing Model

The Remote side is short. $699 a head, covering employment, payroll, benefits and compliance, with nothing charged for the platform, the implementation or a deposit.

One number you may find that we would not budget from. A $599 annual rate sits in the data behind Remote's pricing page with nothing rendering it and no billing toggle to reach it, which we confirmed again on 6 August 2026.

Quote $699 to your CFO, then ask Remote for the annual rate by name.

Rippling Pricing Model

We cannot price Rippling from Rippling. We read its pricing page on 6 August 2026 and it carried no dollar figure at all, apart from the $100 gift card it offers for sitting through a demo.

So every Rippling number below is third-party reporting: a base platform at $8 per user per month plus a flat fee of about $35, and an EOR rate somewhere between $499 and $1,000. Use it as a planning ceiling. It is not a quote and we cannot verify it.

Total cost analysis

25 international hires, no domestic headcount

Remote: 25 × $699 = $17,475 a month. Add 10 to 15% for visa support and supplemental benefits.

Rippling: 25 × $750, the midpoint of the reported range, is $18,750. Add the reported base platform, 25 × $8 plus $35, which is $235.

Then $10,000 of implementation spread over twelve months. Roughly $19,820 a month in year one.

Now change one thing. Give the same company 150 US employees. The base fee is charged on all 175 people, so it goes from $235 to $1,435.

That is $1,200 a month more for staff who will never open the international module. Remote charges nothing on your US people, because it does not serve them.

Remote figures from remote.com/pricing, read 6 August 2026. Every Rippling figure here is third-party reported and labelled as an estimate, for the reason given directly above this table.

Hidden Fees and Add-Ons

Add-ons sit on both sides. Remote charges separately for visa support, relocation and supplemental benefits, and publishes none of those rates either.

Rippling charges per module and publishes no module rates at all, so nobody outside the company can tell you what a full HR, IT and finance build costs. Make them itemise it per module, per employee, in writing, before you compare anything.

Which Offers Better Value?

That second scenario runs in both directions. The same 150 US employees are the reason Rippling can come out cheaper overall, because they are already paying for BambooHR, a payroll tool and an MDM system somewhere else.

Work out the whole bill before you compare the EOR line. If Rippling replaces four vendors for your domestic staff, its international premium can disappear.

If it replaces nothing, you are paying a platform fee on your whole domestic headcount for a module those people cannot use. Put that figure in the business case yourself, before procurement finds it.

How Do Remote.com and Rippling Compare on Compliance: A Named Employer vs a Partner in Every Country?

Remote can name your employee's legal employer in 19 countries. Rippling cannot name one in any, because it owns no employer-of-record entity in a single country it sells into.

Entity Ownership Model

Hire in Germany through Remote and a German company inside Remote's own group signs the contract, and it appears in the Handelsregister, the German commercial register. Hire in Italy, Brazil or India and a firm Remote has contracted signs it instead.

Ask Remote which side your country falls on before you shortlist it, because three things change with the answer. Onboarding runs 10 to 15 business days where an owned entity takes 5 to 7, and your escalation travels through one more company.

Rippling's answer is the same everywhere: a contracted local firm. Its seven native-payroll countries do not change it, which matters if a salesperson cites the UK as evidence of local infrastructure. Running the payroll and signing the contract are two different jobs.

Legal Infrastructure and Indemnification

The third thing that changes is the one Legal will care about. Remote's own terms limit what it answers for when a local partner fails, so in those countries the liability lands back with you.

Remote's marketing does not admit that split. Its employer-of-record page states that Remote "owns and operates 100% of our entities, no handoffs to third-parties", and its blog says it has done so "since Day One".

Its own help documentation describes partner countries and gives them a slower onboarding clock. When a provider's documents disagree with each other, the disagreement is the finding, and this one runs in the marketing's favour.

WhichPayroll view

A partner model is not automatically worse. The difference shows up when something goes wrong: your escalation runs through two organisations, and only one of them signed your contract.

We looked for a Rippling page that names the partner firms and could not find one on 6 August 2026. The 80-country figure is published, in a blog post from 29 June 2025; the register of firms behind it is nowhere.

Get that list in writing before Legal sees the shortlist. It is the document they will ask for and it does not exist publicly.

Apply the same question to Remote. Its own registry-verified count is roughly 19 of 90+, so ask for the country list in the same email.

Worker Classification and IP Protection

IP Guard, described earlier, leaves you holding a dated assignment record. Rippling's equivalent is a clause inside a contract signed by a firm you never engaged, which is adequate for most hiring and awkward the day a buyer's lawyers trace the chain of title.

Rippling's control here is automated. The platform screens a contractor engagement against the tests a labour inspectorate would apply, and warns you before you sign. If misclassification is your real exposure, that control is worth more to you than an IP audit trail.

10

How Do Remote.com and Rippling Compare on Country Coverage: 90+ vs 80?

Remote publishes 90+ EOR countries. Rippling publishes 80. On reach alone there is almost nothing in it.

Total Country Coverage

The 90+ sits on Remote's own pricing page. Rippling's 80 sits on its own blog, updated 29 June 2025, and nowhere on the employer-of-record page a buyer would actually read. Both count for our index, which scores whatever a provider publishes anywhere on its own site.

Ten countries of difference should not decide this. The thing that separates them is who signs your hire's employment contract, and the compliance section above works that through.

Both numbers are modest for the category. Deel states 130+ through its own entities and Pebl states 185+, so if your hiring list runs to Kazakhstan, Malta or Uruguay, pull both country lists before you assume either covers everywhere.

Corrected 7 August 2026. This section previously said Rippling published no country count and scored zero on coverage, giving it a composite of 5.1.

We had checked only its employer-of-record page, which still names no number. The 80 has been on Rippling's own blog since 29 June 2025, so the composite is 6.4: the same rubric with the right input in it.

Remote still wins this section, by ten countries instead of by default.

Where Coverage Quality Differs

Coverage quality bites in the low-volume country nobody demoed. Outside the 19 markets we verified, Remote will not say publicly whether the employer is its own company or a contracted firm, so you have to make it say so in writing.

On Rippling it is a contracted firm everywhere, and it will not name the firms. Neither provider publishes a partner list or a response-time standard for partner countries, which means there is no public answer to give you here.

So test it in the demo. Name your three hardest countries, ask who signs the contract in each, and get the answer in writing.

11

How Do Remote.com and Rippling Compare on Support: Pooled Replies vs Tiered Account Teams?

Rippling is better on the user evidence, and that runs against most of what this page has said so far.

Customer Reviews and Common Issues

It scores 4.8 on G2 across more than 5,000 reviews and 4.9 on Capterra across more than 3,000. Those are the highest satisfaction scores of any provider we cover, on much the largest sample. Papaya Global's rating, for scale, rests on 55 G2 reviews.

Read the complaints underneath the average, though, because they land exactly where this comparison does: pricing opacity, non-US features trailing US ones, mixed resolution on complex EOR edge cases in partner countries. That pattern points at the domestic platform as the source of the score.

Support Channels and Response Times

Remote tiers its support by headcount. Standard runs a 24/7 chatbot with handoff to a human, and human email and chat replies land in 24 to 48 hours. A priority tier arrives at 50 employees, and a named success manager at enterprise.

In the G2 and Capterra reviews we read, the complaint that recurs is that first-line support is friendly and cannot help. Reaching someone who knows the local employment law takes days.

Here is what that costs you. Your Berlin engineer resigns on Tuesday morning with immediate effect, and you need to know before Friday whether garden leave is enforceable there and what happens to the repo access.

Remote's own documented window for a first human reply is 24 to 48 hours, and in a partner country the answer travels back through the partner before Remote can give it to you. Rippling's is admin-gated chat with phone reserved for larger accounts.

Neither will beat that clock unless you already bought the tier that does, and that is decided at signature.

12

Which Should You Choose: Remote.com or Rippling?

Answer one question and the rest follows: is international employment the problem, or a consequence of a problem you already have at home? We do not run either platform. The triggers below come from what the two providers publish, what their own documentation admits, and what their users report.

Choose Remote.com If

  • Legal will ask who employs the person. In the 19 countries we checked in the registers the answer is a Remote company with a registration number. Remote does not publish the split for the other 70 or so, so make it name your country before you shortlist it.
  • You need a number before you are allowed to ask for a number. The rate sits on a public page, so you can build the business case, get it approved, and only then book the sales call.
  • Working capital is tight. Remote asks for no deposit and no setup fee. Deel, on its own published formula, would hold $66,000 to $99,000 of your cash on the same ten hires.
  • An acquirer will read your IP chain. IP Guard timestamps both legs of the assignment, so the chain of title is a document you hand over rather than a story you reconstruct. Rippling relies on clauses inside a partner's contract.

Choose Rippling If

  • The international hires are the small half. 150 people at home and 15 abroad means the platform decision is a domestic one, and the EOR module is a convenience bolted onto a decision you were making anyway.
  • You are replacing four vendors, not one. Drop BambooHR, Gusto, Jamf and a separate EOR into one bill and the international premium can disappear entirely. Do that arithmetic with your real headcount before you accept either vendor's version of it.
  • Offboarding scares you more than onboarding. The SCIM connector closes someone's accounts automatically the day they leave. Remote has no equivalent and no view of your app estate.
  • Misclassification worries you more than patents do. Rippling's guardrails catch a contractor who legally reads as an employee before you engage them. Remote reviews that by hand at onboarding.

Consider an Alternative If

  • Your country list runs past 90. Remote's published count is the binding constraint, and Rippling's published 80 is lower still. Both Deel at 130+ and Papaya Global at 160+ state more.
  • You need someone to run the implementation for you. Neither provider is high-touch. That is what Pebl, formerly Velocity Global, sells.
13

What Are the Best Alternatives to Remote.com and Rippling?

Each of these answers a specific reason you would walk away from both. We have led with the trigger and put the company second.

Deel

  • Switch here when the country list is what fails you. Deel's stated 130+ owned-entity countries beat Remote's 90+ by a wide margin, and its published $599 is $100 a head a month under Remote's $699.
  • You pay for that reach in cash. The published Deel deposit described above applies per hire, so the working capital Remote leaves sitting in your account is what you hand over.

Papaya Global

  • Switch here when the project is payroll consolidation across many countries. 160+ countries, from $499 per employee per month, with treasury and shadow payroll attached.
  • It says it manages and operates the local entity in 40 of its EOR countries. Managing an entity is not owning one, so ask the same question you would ask Remote.

Pebl

  • Switch here when what you actually need is a named human on your account. Now trading as Pebl after rebranding from Velocity Global, it sells country expertise for complex terminations and visa work.
  • 185+ stated countries, the widest here, but pricing is quote-only aside from a promotional $399 rate. You are trading the published price you came to this page for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is cheaper, Remote or Rippling?

Remote, for EOR-only buying: $699 a head, no platform fee under it, and no deposit.

Rippling will not quote a rate without a sales conversation, and its base platform charge falls on your domestic staff as well as the hires abroad. Every Rippling figure on this page is somebody else's estimate, labelled as one.

Does Rippling own its EOR entities?

No. The name on your hire's contract is always a local firm Rippling has contracted, and that holds in the UK too, where Rippling runs the payroll itself.

Remote runs a mixed model: its own registered company in the 19 countries we verified, and a contracted local firm in Italy, Brazil and India among the roughly 70 it does not break down. Ask which applies to your country.

How many countries can each one employ in?

Remote states 90+ on the pricing page we read on 6 August 2026. Rippling states 80, in a blog post updated 29 June 2025, though its employer-of-record page still carries no number.

Both are narrow for the category. The alternatives section above names three providers that state more, and what you give up to get there.

Can Rippling replace my entire HR tech stack?

For a US-anchored company, largely yes: HRIS, payroll, benefits, time, expenses, devices and app access run off one record.

The consolidation only pays if you are genuinely retiring four or more tools. If your headcount is mostly international, you are paying a platform fee for a domestic stack you do not have.

Both providers were assessed on the same six dimensions listed above, and neither was engaged for a paid pilot as part of it.

Three things changed at this re-check. Remote displays a single rate of $699, and the $599 this page previously carried as an annual rate is not on its pricing page at all.

That value survives only in the page source, invisible to anyone using the site. We have priced the whole page at $699.

We also corrected the Rippling base platform. This page called the $8 per user and $35 monthly figures published. Rippling's pricing page carried no price of any kind when we read it on 6 August 2026, so both are labelled here as third-party reports.

And an earlier version said Rippling owns entities in the UK, Germany, France, Canada and Australia. It does not own one anywhere. That claim appears to have confused Rippling's seven native-payroll countries with employment entities, and we have corrected it here and re-verified it against Rippling's own pages.

On Remote we now give a counted figure for the owned entities. Nineteen countries are verified through local company registries, starting with the UK, Germany, France and Spain. Remote's own marketing claims 100% owned entities everywhere, and its help documentation does not support that.
