WhichPayroll Editorial

Playroll publicly documents native connectors for two HR systems, BambooHR and HiBob, and none for accounting. QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and Sage do not appear in its public materials, and its site has no developer portal or API reference. That does not prove those connections are impossible.

It does mean you cannot scope them from public information, as you can with Plane, which documents a QuickBooks Online connector plus a public API, CLI, MCP server and sandbox.

Playroll starts at $399 per employee per month and hires in 180+ countries, so for many hiring plans the question is not where it can employ but how it fits your tools: your finance close, your HR-system sync and the way a new starter reaches payroll. Until Playroll answers that in writing, treat any connection it has not documented as unconfirmed.

WhichPayroll verdict
Playroll integrations

Best for: Finance and People Ops teams who can absorb manual reconciliation on every payroll cycle, or technical teams willing to scope a custom integration build during pre-sales using Playroll’s referenced but undocumented API.

Watch out for: Accounting connectors (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage) are not publicly documented as of October 2026. No ATS connectors (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday Recruiting) are confirmed. No Zapier.

Playroll says its API “is available for custom builds”, but no developer docs are public.

Expect significant pre-sales engineering time to validate fit.

Compared to: Deel lists 200-plus integrations and a documented public API. Remote names 22 connectors and publishes API docs. Plane, a smaller competitor, documents QuickBooks Online and a public API.

Playroll’s documented accounting coverage trails all three, and its recruitment coverage trails Deel and Remote.

WhichPayroll view

Playroll documents native connectors for two HR systems, BambooHR and HiBob, and for the expense tool Expensify, through its public Partner Network. It publicly confirms no accounting or recruitment-system connector. If your finance team posts payroll to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite or Sage, that is the gap that will cost time, not HR-record sync.

Get the accounting integration list, the API reference and the connector roadmap in writing before signing.

What does Playroll integrate with?

Playroll publicly documents three native connectors: BambooHR (Gold Partner, free for all customers, live since November 2022, when Playroll described a sync every 24 hours), HiBob (Platinum Partner; the listing describes bi-directional real-time sync but labels it one-way) and the expense tool Expensify. They appear in its Partner Network at playroll.com/partner-network and its integrations directory at playroll.com/integrations.

We found no public connector for accounting (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage), applicant tracking (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday Recruiting) or automation platforms such as Zapier and Make.

So an HR-system sync can be scoped from Playroll's own pages, and the BambooHR connector has been live for over three years. Payroll posting to your accounts and the handoff from your recruitment system need a sales conversation. Absence from a public list does not mean Playroll cannot do them, only that you will have to get the answer from Playroll.

Does Playroll integrate with HRIS, ATS, or accounting platforms?

This section is where the documentation gap bites hardest, because these are the three categories buyers ask about first.

Accounting platforms

QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and Sage, the four accounting platforms we checked, do not appear as native integrations in Playroll's public materials. Deel lists direct connectors for all four, Remote for QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite, and Plane for QuickBooks Online.

Without a connector, finance may need to export Playroll's payroll register, map it to your general ledger and post the journal by hand. Ask Playroll for a sample export first, because a file built for your system could remove most of that work. At ten EOR employees manual posting is a contained job.

At thirty or fifty it is a monthly cost the $399 headline does not show.

Applicant tracking systems

Playroll publicly confirms no connector for an applicant tracking system (ATS). Of the four we checked, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday Recruiting, Deel lists three (Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever, the last in beta) and Remote lists Greenhouse and Ashby.

Unless Playroll offers another route, such as its API or a file import, a coordinator will copy each accepted candidate into Playroll by hand. That is manageable at low volume and becomes a bottleneck above about twenty hires per quarter, so ask which route exists before you plan around it.

HRIS connectors

Playroll has no native HRIS product, unlike Plane, which includes a free one, so it depends on connectors. It publicly documents two: BambooHR (Gold Partner, free, synced by API) and HiBob (Platinum Partner, described as bi-directional real-time sync, though the listing is labelled one-way).

Workday is not confirmed.

Deel and Remote also ship BambooHR and HiBob connectors, so Playroll is at parity on the two most common HRIS platforms in its target segment. Rippling, the deepest in this category, treats EOR as a module of a unified HRIS.

The scenario rule: if your HRIS is BambooHR or HiBob, joiner and leaver data syncs automatically. If your HRIS is Workday or a less common platform, confirm connector availability in writing before signing.

That is not a technical objection, it is an operational one, and it scales linearly with headcount for any unsupported platform.

Does Playroll have an API?

Playroll's integrations FAQ says its API "is available for custom builds", but we found no public API documentation: no developer portal, authentication scheme, published rate limit or code samples on its site. That does not prove the API is missing. It means your team has to establish what it can do before you sign.

For an engineering team evaluating Playroll, the practical pre-sales sequence looks like this: request API documentation under NDA, review authentication and resource model, prototype a minimum viable connector against a sandbox (if one is offered), and assess whether the surface area covers the workflows you need.

Those are normal checks. What is unusual is starting them with so little public material. Plane publishes a CLI, an MCP server and a sandbox environment, and Deel publishes a versioned API reference, so an engineer can judge fit before the first sales call.

With Playroll, that work comes out of your engineering hours, a cost the per-employee price does not show.

How do Playroll integrations compare to Deel and Remote.com?

Playroll documents far fewer integrations than Deel or Remote, and none for accounting or recruitment.

The peer comparison makes the scale concrete: Deel publishes 200-plus integrations across HRIS, ATS, accounting, identity, and collaboration tooling, with a documented public API.

Remote names 22 connectors, including BambooHR, Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby, QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and Zapier, with a public API.

Both include Zapier, which matters because it lets non-technical People Ops staff build automation without engineering tickets.

Playroll publicly confirms BambooHR and HiBob from that list, but not Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby, QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite or Zapier. Among smaller providers, Plane documents a QuickBooks Online connector plus a CLI and sandbox.

Playroll’s documented accounting and ATS coverage is thinner than Deel’s or Remote’s; on HRIS it matches them for BambooHR and HiBob.

The decision frame: if you are paying within ten percent of Deel’s or Remote’s rate, you are accepting materially less integration depth at Playroll, and the gap shows up in monthly finance close and weekly People Ops workflow.

Are Playroll integrations enough for your tech stack?

Playroll's integrations are probably enough if fewer than ten people are employed through it and your finance team is comfortable reconciling a monthly export by hand. At that size, its country coverage and support can outweigh the missing connectors.

They are probably not enough at thirty-plus employees with a finance close window under five business days, or if People Ops runs automated onboarding from Greenhouse. Then the manual steps recur every month.

As an illustration, take 25 EOR employees across six countries. If a Deel or Remote accounting connector posts your payroll to QuickBooks or Xero, finance checks the entries. Without one, a coordinator exports six files, maps each to the right cost centre and currency account, and posts the journals by hand.

On our estimate that takes two to three hours at 25 employees and most of a day at 60, every month, at finance close. None of it appears in the $399 per employee price.

The alternative is to scope a custom integration before you sign. Name the three workflows that matter most to you, such as payroll to accounts, recruitment to onboarding and HR-system sync, and ask Playroll to commit in the contract to which API endpoints will be available and by when. A capability described only in a sales conversation is not one you can enforce.

No QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, or Sage integration is publicly documented as of October 2026.

Finance teams should plan for manual export and journal posting on every payroll cycle, or request a custom integration commitment in the contract before signing.

Playroll’s integrations FAQ says its API “is available for custom builds,” but no public API documentation, developer portal, or code samples are accessible from the marketing site.

Engineering teams evaluating Playroll should request API documentation under NDA during pre-sales and treat integration scoping as part of the procurement process.

BambooHR and HiBob are publicly confirmed native Playroll connectors. BambooHR is free for all customers and has been live since November 2022; Playroll now describes it as an API sync. HiBob is a Platinum Partner; its listing describes bi-directional real-time sync but labels it one-way.

Workday is not confirmed.

For BambooHR or HiBob shops, joiner and leaver data flows automatically. Workday users should request connector confirmation in writing before signing.

No iPaaS connector (Zapier, Make, Workato) is publicly documented for Playroll. This matters most for People Ops teams without engineering support, who rely on iPaaS to build automated workflows.

Deel and Remote both ship Zapier connectors, which lets non-technical staff automate new-hire and offboarding workflows without dev tickets.

Request three things in writing: the current integration list with platform names and supported workflows, the API reference URL or documentation under NDA, and the connector roadmap with target dates for any platforms in development.

Without these in the contract, integration capability is a sales claim rather than an enforceable term.
